Solid centuries for Burns, Ahye

Trinidad and Tobago sprinters Marc Burns and Michelle-Lee Ahye produced solid performances at meets in the United States, on the weekend.

At the War Eagle Invite, in Alabama, Burns finished second in the men's 100 metres dash in 10.08 seconds, his fastest century clocking since 2009. With that run, Burns moved into fifth spot on the 2012 world performance list.

American Mookie Salaam topped the field in 9.98 seconds, while sixth spot was copped by T&T's Darrel Brown in 10.42. Another T&T athlete, Stann Waithe clocked 10.78 to finish 14th overall.

Josanne Lucas was in winners' row in Alabama, the T&T athlete striking gold in the women's 400m hurdles in 58.07 seconds. Lucas also competed in the 100m hurdles, finishing fourth in the final in 13.27 seconds. In the preliminary round, she had clocked 13.10. Auburn University's Dannielle Davis was 15th overall in 14.38.

Another T&T/Auburn athlete, Kai Selvon got home in 11.42 seconds to secure silver in the women's 100m dash.

Emmanuel Mayers produced a 51.01 seconds run to cop second spot in the men's 400m hurdles.

Cowin Mills finished 11th overall in the men's 400m in 48.55 seconds. In the men's 200m, Waithe (21.46) and Mills (21.46) were 13th and 14th, respectively. And in the women's 200m, Davis was 42nd in 26 seconds flat.

Ahye clocked a personal best 11.19 seconds to seize silver in the women's 100m dash, at the Mt. SAC Relays, in California. The 20-year-old sprinter finished just behind 2005 world champion Lauryn Williams (11.17), of the United States.

Richard "Torpedo" Thompson got home in 20.80 seconds to finish fifth in the men's 200m, his 2012 individual outdoor opener.

Jamaal James returned a time of one minute, 47.27 seconds for fifth spot in the Olympic Development men's 800m. The clocking was the fastest James has produced since 2007.

Melissa DeLeon was fifth in the university/open women's 800m in 2:04.48. Magnolia Howell clocked 54.41 seconds for 11th spot overall in the university/open women's 400m. And in the university/open women's 200m, Washington State University's Shawna Fermin was 12th in 23.92 seconds and Howell was 16th in a wind-assisted 24.07.

Lalonde Gordon clocked 20.75 seconds to snap up silver in the men's 200m, at the International Friendship & Freedom Games, in North Carolina.

And at the Vanderbilt Invitational, in Tennessee, University of Tennessee senior Annie Alexander copped second spot in the women's discus with a 52.39 metres throw.
