NAAA releases 2014 calendar

THE SAGICOR/National Gas Company (NGC)-sponsored Open Championships is slated to take place from June 20-22 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, as the National Association of Athletic Administrations (NAAA) released its 2014 calendar.

On its website, the NAAA also announced that the National Junior Championships will be staged at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, on May 31 and June 1.

The first major event on the NAAA agenda for 2014 will be the TT Marathon, from Chaguanas to Port-of-Spain, on January 26.

Also on the calendar are the Secondary Schools Championships (March 12-13), the CARIFTA Trials (March 15-16) and the Hampton Games (May 17-18), the National Juvenile Championships (June 7-8) — all at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, the Southern Games (April 5-6) at Guaracara Park in Pointe-a-Pierre and the Falcon Games (April 11-13) at the Dwight Yorke Stadium.

On the international arena, the IAAF World Indoor Championships are carded for Sopot, Poland from March 7-9; the CARIFTA Games will take place on Easter weekend (April 19-21) in Martinique; the World Junior Championships are set for Eugene, United States from July 22-27 and the 22nd Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games will be held at Veracruz, Mexico from November 15-30.

But the local athletes will be focusing on the biggest prize in 2014 – the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland from July 23 to August 3.

In related news, the NAAA will be holding its 2013 award ceremony on January 4 at Capital Plaza, Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain.
