Alexander strikes gold at Draddy Invitational

Annie Alexander was the class of the women’s shot put field at the Draddy Invitational in New York, USA, on the weekend. The Trinidad and Tobago athlete threw the iron ball 15.62 metres to capture gold.

At the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Indoor Championships, in North Carolina, Jameel Walcott returned a time of one minute, 58.86 seconds to secure silver in the men’s 800 metres. The St Augustine’s University senior had clocked 1:55.85 in the qualifying round. In the mile, Walcott was seventh in 4:48.60.

At the Tyson Invitational, in Arkansas, South Plains Community College freshman Jereem Richards finished sixth in the men’s 400m in an indoor best 46.61 seconds.

University of Tennessee’s Jamol James and Louisiana State University (LSU) student Shermund Allsop were ninth and 20th, respectively, in the men’s 60m semis, clocking 6.72 seconds and 6.88. Neither sprinter advanced to the final.

Iowa Central Community College sophomore Jessica James was 13th in the women’s 800m in 2:13.31.

Allsop got home in 21.32 seconds for 18th spot overall in the men’s 200m.

South Plains sprinter Shun-Shauna Mason was 22nd in the women’s 60m semis in 7.62, and did not qualify for the final. In the preliminaries, Mason was 18th fastest in 7.53 seconds, while Mississippi State University student Peli Alzola finished 54th in 7.86.

In the women’s 400m, South Plains freshman Domonique Williams was 21st in 54.65 seconds, and Auburn University sophomore Gabriela Cumberbatch was 66th in 57.78.

Baylor University’s Dannielle Davis clocked 8.85 seconds for 41st spot in the women’s 60m hurdles.

And in the women’s 200m, Mason (25.04) and Alzola (25.26) were 53rd and 60th, respectively.

At the Red Raider Open, in Texas, Western Texas College student Kernesha Spann finished seventh in the women’s 400m in 57.45 seconds.

And in the men’s 400m, Abilene Christian University’s Osei Alleyne-Forte clocked 49.81 for 14th spot overall.
