Lalonde Gordon will lead the charge for Trinidad and Tobago at the March 7-9 IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) World Indoor Track and Field Championships, in Sopot, Poland.

In a National Association of Athletics Administrations (NAAA) press release, yesterday, Gordon was named on a team of seven athletes selected to represent the Red, White and Black in Poland.

Gordon, a double bronze medallist at the 2012 London Olympics, is at the top of the 2014 world indoor performance list in the men’s 400 metres with a 45.17 seconds clocking.

Gordon is expected to compete in the 400m in Sopot. Either Jereem Richards or Jarrin Solomon will be the other T&T athlete in that event.

Gordon, Richards, Solomon, Ade Alleyne-Forte and Emanuel Mayers have been named for the men’s 4x400m relay.

Michelle-Lee Ahye, who equalled the national women’s 60m record of 7.13 seconds in grabbing gold at the Millrose Games in New York, USA on the weekend, will face the starter in that event in Sopot. Geronne Black has also been selected for the women’s 60m.

Tonya Nero is among 21 runners chosen to fly the T&T flag at the North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Cross Country Championships, which take place on Saturday at the Mt Irvine Golf Course, in Tobago.

And Nero will be T&T’s lone representative at the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, in Copenhagen, Denmark, on March 29.
