NAAA name three athletic teams

THE NATIONAL Association of Athletics Administrations (NAAA) have named three teams, for forthcoming events, including the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland from March 7-9.

A seven-member squad has been chosen for the World Indoors, including 2012 Olympic Games bronze medallists Lalonde Gordon (400 metres and 4x400m relay) as well as 1600m relay members Jarrin Solomon and Ade Alleyne-Forte.

Gordon, Solomon and Jereem Richards will participate in both the 400m and 4x400m relay at Poland, while Alleyne-Forte and Emmanuel Mayers are the other members of the relay team.

Michelle-Lee Ahye and Geronne Black will complete the TT team, and they will both compete in the women’s 60m. Charles Joseph is the coach and Paul Voisin is the manager. Two members of the local club Athletic Central will form the national team for the IAAF World Half Marathon in Copenhagen, Denmark. Tonya Nero will be competing, while Allan Baboolal will hold the dual role as coach/manager.

And a 21-member team will feature at the NACAC (North America, Central America and the Caribbean) Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Mt Irvine in the sister isle Tobago.

The athletes chosen are Tonya Nero, Elia Nero, Jenelle Nedd, Dawnelle Collymore (female seniors 6k); Kendis Bullard, Jules La Rode, Kade Sobers, Mark London, Shervan Baboolal, George Smith (male seniors 8k); Aaliyah Mitchell, Donicia Antoine, Mikayla Ottley, Thyla-Maries Scott, Sherese Crichlow (female juniors 4k); Akeem Marshall, Ashton Gill, Jevon Joseph, Daniel Elie, Joshua James, Atiba Samuel (male juniors 6k).

Juleus Smart and Annalee Walcott will take up the coaching duties while Dawn Washington is the manager.
