The Trinidad and Tobago team for the March 7-9 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Sopot, Poland has been cut from seven athletes to four, following the withdrawal of South Plains Community College student Jereem Richards.

With Richards unavailable and 2014 men’s 400 metres world indoor leader Lalonde Gordon asking to be excluded from the men’s 4x400m event, the T&T 4x4 relay team has been withdrawn. As a result, athletes Ade Alleyne-Forte and Emanuel Mayers, as well as coach Charlie Joseph will no longer be making the trip to Sopot.

In a press release, yesterday, National Association of Athletics Administrations (NAAA) public relations officer, Peter Samuel explained: “Jereem Richards has opted out of the Championships because of school commitments, thus leaving the 4x400 team down to a bare four. With this situation arising, Lalonde Gordon’s management team has asked that he be excused from the 4x400 as he is experiencing some difficulties with his groin, and running three rounds of the individual event, then two rounds of the relay may be too much for the athlete.”

T&T team

Men—Lalonde Gordon (400m), Jarrin Solomon (400m)
Women—Michelle-Lee Ahye (60m), Geronne Black (60m)
Manager/coach—Paul Voisin
