Lendore breaks T&T record

Deon Lendore smashed his own indoor men’s 400 metres national record when he blazed the track in 45.03 seconds to strike gold at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Indoor Track and Field Championships, in Texas, USA, yesterday.

Lendore’s clocking was 12-hundredths of a second faster than his old Trinidad and Tobago standard—45.15. With his superb 45.03 effort, the Texas A&M University student jumped from 10th to joint-sixth on the all-time world performance list, with American Torrin Lawrence. Lendore is at the top of the 2014 performance list, while his T&T teammate, Lalonde Gordon is second at 45.17.

Another T&T/Texas A&M athlete, Carlyle Roudette was 11th overall in the SEC Championship men’s 400m event in 47.10 seconds.

Wayne Davis II bagged bronze in the men’s 60m hurdles in 7.71 seconds.

His Texas A&M teammate, Janeil Bellille clocked a personal best 52.58 seconds to finish fourth in the women’s 400m.

University of Tennessee student, Jamol James was fourth in the men’s 60m final in 6.69 seconds—a new PR (personal record). Louisiana State University (LSU) sprinter, Shermund Allsop finished 17th overall in 6.81.

Allsop was eighth in the men’s 200m in 21.25 seconds. He had clocked an indoor best 21.08 in the preliminary round. And James produced a 6.95 metres leap for 12th spot in the men’s long jump.

At the Big Ten Championships, in Ohio, University of Minnesota student Alena Brooks won the women’s 600m title in one minute, 26.73 seconds. The clocking is a new meet and Big Ten record, as well as a new facility record.

Penn State University’s Steve Waithe seized silver in the men’s triple jump with a 15.73m effort. He jumped 7.14m for eighth spot in the long jump.

And University of Iowa student Carisa Leacock finished sixth in the women’s long jump (6.00m) and 10th in the triple jump (12.20m).

Reyare Thomas completed the women’s sprint double at the Southland Conference Championships, in Alabama. The Abilene Christian University (ACU) senior won the 60m dash in 7.45 seconds and the 200m in 23.73—a new meet record.

McNeese State University senior Ashlee Smith finished eighth in the women’s weight throw with a 16.77m effort. She threw 12.24m for 14th spot in the shot put.

And in the men’s 400m, ACU junior Osei Alleyne-Forte was 23rd in 50.83 seconds.

At the Princeton Invite, in New Jersey, Coppin State University’s Deandra Daniel topped the women’s high jump field with a 1.80m clearance.

Arkansas State University senior Kashef Daniel cleared the bar at 2.10m to earn bronze in the men’s high jump, at the Sun Belt Conference Championships, in Alabama.

In New York, Kiersten LaRoche was sixth in the American Athletic Conference Championship women’s pentathlon with 3,579 points. The Temple University junior also competed in the long jump, finishing 10th with a 5.75m leap.

At the Conference USA Championships, in Alabama, Aeisha McDavid finished 13th in the women’s pentathlon. The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) athlete accumulated 3,050 points in the five-discipline event. And in the triple jump, McDavid was 25th with an 11.30m effort.
