Lendore shatters 400m record in Texas

T&T athlete Deon Lendore took the spotlight on Saturday at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Indoor Championships capturing gold in the 4x400 metres relay, after breaking the T&T 400m record in 45.03 seconds—a world leading time this year.

Lendore broke his school’s old record and his T&T mark, which previously stood at 45.15, successfully defending his SEC Indoor title in the process. He also broke the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium, Texas record (previously 45.33)

Lendore’s 44.63 leg anchored his Aggie team of Shavez Hart (47.06), Aldrich Bailey Jr (45.40) and fellow T&T runner Caryle Roudette (46.12). The team clocked 3:03.2 to break the 4x400 NCAA record. Lendore T&T Olympic medalist claimed his fifth conference title in the event and was part of his fifth conference title. Roudette, who also competed in the 400m event placed 11th overall in 47.10 seconds.

Jamol James of the University of Tennessee placed fourth in the 60m event, in 6.69 seconds- also a personal best. James also competed in the men’s long jump with a 6.95m leap for a 12th placed finish.

In the end, Texas A&M finished third (83.33) in the points tally behind the defending champion Arkansas (121) and Florida (106). Among the women, T&T/Texas A&M athletes, Janeil Bellille provided a personal best performance, taking a fourth placed finish in the women’s 400m in 52.58 seconds.
