21 schools for Milo Games

Trinidad Guardian :: 11.03.2014

Carenage Boys’ and Carenage Girls’ Government will return to defend their West A title, while Diamond Vale Government will attempt to do the same in West B, when the Milo West Games runs off at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, today.

Twenty-one schools, both public and private are included in today’s championship with 35 track and 23 field events carded between 10.15 am and 2.15 pm, when the last race begins.

Five points will be awarded to event winners, while second takes three points. Third and fourth placed finishers will receive two and one point, respectively.

Those points apply to all events with the expection of the relays, where points will be doubled.

The heats for the event took place just over three weeks ago. Dunross Preparatory School, which entered the Milo West Games seven years ago, looks set to register its first medal today, after Marcus Choo Quan placed first in the U-11 400m event.

Danielle Phillip, running in the U-13 Girls’ 100m event also placed first for Dunross, as did Lianna Ellis in the U-13 Girls’ 200m.

However, the team trophy looks set for a tight battle between Diamond Vale Government, La Puerta Government and Diamond Vale, in West B Girls’ events, while the team champions in the boys schools West A and B divisions also seem unpredictable. Defending champion Carenage Girls looks set to retain its title, but for a genuine challenge from Dunross, in a hotly contested challenge set for West A.

The teams will assemble for 8.30 am, while the parade of teams will take place from 9.15 am.
