NAAA announce Carifta team

AFTER an action packed weekend of performances, 67 athletes and 17 officials have been selected to represent Trinidad and Tobago at the 43rd Carifta Games to be held in Martinique from April 19-21 at the Pierre Aliker Municipal Stadium, Fort de France.

This year for the first time, the athletes will be competing at Under-18 and Under-20 age groups, instead of the previous under 17 and under 20 categories. This decision was taken at the NACAC congress at the last Carifta Games which was held in the Bahamas. These age groups are similar to the global competitions such as the World Youth (Under 18) and World Junior Championships (Under 20). Five TT athletes will be returning to defend their gold medal performances from last year, including Jeminise Parris (400m Hurdles); Chelsea James (Shot Put); Andwelle Wright (Long Jump); Machel Cedenio (400m) and Akeem Marshall (5000m)

There are three other medallists from last years Carifta Games on this year’s team. Shaiann Charles; Che Richards and Ruebin Walters. This is one of the largest Carifta teams ever selected, and after some high quality performances at national trials, there will be great expectations for even better results at this year’s Carifta Games. The National Association of Athletics Administration (NAAA) has organised a Charter for the Games. The Caribbean Airlines charter flight number is BW8000 and will be leaving Trinidad on April 17 at 10am and returning on April 22 on flight number BW8001 at 12:10pm. The cost per ticket is TT $5,200 per person. The deadline for bookings is March 27 and the NAAA is advising that bookings and payments should be made as early as possible.
