Ahye wins twice in Texas

Trinidad and Tobago’s Michelle-Lee Ahye won twice on the weekend, in Texas, USA.

Ahye topped the Bobcat Invitational women’s 100 metres field. She got to the line in a wind-assisted 11.06 seconds, forcing another T&T sprinter, Reyare Thomas to settle for second in 11.26.

At the Texas Relays, Ahye struck gold in the women’s invitational 100m dash in a wind-aided 11.07 seconds.

Thomas clocked 23.42 for fourth spot in the women’s invitational 200m.

Wayne Davis II emerged victorious in the men’s 110m hurdles, the Texas A&M University student crossing the line in a windy 13.45 seconds. He had clocked 13.64 in the qualifying round.

University of Southern Mississippi senior Robert Collingwood finished second in the men’s shot put “B” event with a 17.88 metres effort. His twin brother and Southern Miss teammate, Richard Collingwood threw 16.09m for 10th spot.

Louisiana State University (LSU) sprinter, Shermund Allsop was 24th overall in the university men’s 100m dash in 10.54 seconds. And in the women’s 100m, South Plains College student Shun-Shauna Mason was 37th in 11.98.

Josanne Lucas made a triumphant return to competition, winning the women’s 400m hurdles at the Fum McGraw Quadrangular meet, in Colorado. Forced to sit out the 2013 season after suffering a serious knee injury ahead of the London Olympics, the 2009 World Championship bronze medallist won her comeback race in 58.48 seconds.

Deandra Daniel cleared the bar at 1.76m to grab gold in the women’s high jump, at the Weems Baskin Invitational in South Carolina. Her Coppin State University teammate, Haysean Cowie-Clarke was second in the men’s 100m in 10.59 seconds.

At the Yellow Jacket Invitational, in Georgia, Kai Selvon seized silver in the women’s 200m in a windy 23.65.

Annie Alexander finished second twice at the Arizona State Invitational. The T&T field athlete earned the runner-up spot in the women’s discus with a 56.37m effort. And in the shot put, Alexander threw 16.65m to pick up silver.

At the University of California Riverside Spring Break meet, North Dakota State University senior Deborah John clocked 13.81 seconds for second spot in the women’s 100m hurdles.

In Southern Illinois, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee senior, Durell Busby was second in the Bill Cornell Spring Classic men’s 110m hurdles in 14.06.

And at the Raleigh Relays, in North Carolina, Emanuel Mayers finished third in the men’s 400m hurdles in 51.05 seconds, while Morgan State University’s Emmanuel Stewart was seventh in the men’s discus with a 52.83m throw.
