Davis strikes Stanford gold

Trinidad and Tobago’s Wayne Davis II struck gold at the Stanford Invitational in California, USA, last weekend. The Texas A&M University student topped the men’s 110 metres hurdles field in 13.50 seconds.

Another T&T athlete, Deborah John clocked a wind-assisted 13.68 seconds to finish fourth in the women’s 100m hurdles. In the qualifying round, she got to the line in 13.93.

At the Tom Benich meet, in Colorado, Josanne Lucas grabbed gold in the women’s 400m hurdles in 58.31 seconds.

In Louisiana, Kyron Blaise emerged victorious in the men’s long jump at the Louisiana State University (LSU) Battle on the Bayou meet. He jumped a wind-aided 7.65 metres. Blaise also competed in the men’s 100m “B” race, finishing first in a windy 10.70 seconds.

LSU sprinter Shermund Allsop won the men’s 200m in 20.90 seconds, while third spot went to Richard “Torpedo” Thompson in 21.13. And in the 100m “A” race, Allsop was second in a windy 10.30.

At the Texas Tech Outdoor meet, in Texas, South Plains College student Elton Walcott finished first in the men’s triple jump with a wind-assisted 15.65m effort.

Reyare Thomas was the class of the women’s 100m field, the T&T sprinter winning in a wind-aided 11.38 seconds. In the women’s 100m “B” race, South Plains student Shun-Shauna Mason was second in 11.70.

In the men’s 400m, Renny Quow and South Plains athlete Jereem Richards were second and third, respectively, clocking 46.65 seconds and 46.76.

Another T&T/South Plains athlete, Domonique Williams finished sixth in the women’s 400m in 54.90.

At the Tiger Classic, in Auburn, Alabama, Ade Alleyne-Forte won the men’s 400m “B” race in 47.34 seconds.

University of Southern Mississippi student Robert Collingwood topped the men’s shot put field with a 17.91m effort.

And in the women’s 200m, Kai Selvon was second in 23.10 seconds.

In San Diego, California, Shawna Fermin captured the Arnie Robinson Invitational women’s sprint double, winning the 100m in 11.76 seconds and the 200m in 24.16.

At the Crimson Tide Invitational, in Alabama, Penn State University’s Steve Waithe captured the men’s triple jump title with a 15.23m effort.

Mikel Thomas earned silver in the men’s 110m hurdles at the Florida Relays. The T&T athlete got to the line in a wind-assisted 13.51 seconds.

Emanuel Mayers clocked 49.86 seconds for fourth spot in the men’s 400m hurdles.

Jamaal James produced his fastest-ever 800m opener, the T&T half-miler returning a time of one minute, 47.60 seconds for fifth spot in the men’s two-lap event.

In the men’s 800m “B” race, Mark London was second in 1:50.09.

Haysean Cowie-Clarke finished fifth in a men’s 100m race in 10.65 seconds. In the women’s high jump, his Coppin State University teammate Deandra Daniel was seventh with a 1.77m clearance.

And at the Arkansas Spring Invitational, University of Iowa’s Carisa Leacock produced a 5.95m leap for fourth spot in the women’s long jump.
