Results of TT marathon by next week

RESULTS of six athletes who were tested for drugs at this year’s Trinidad and Tobago International Marathon are expected by next week.

Yesterday Francis Williams Smith, a member of the marathon committee revealed that a press conference will be held soon after the results are received. The committee took the decision to introduce drug testing after the 2013 female winner Mary Akor was tested positive for drug use and was slapped with a ban.

Williams-Smith revealed that the test were done on the top male and female in the marathon as well as the runners-up and third place finishers.

Kenya’s Hilary Kimaiyo and Mark Chepes took the top two places among the men respectively while Juan Carlos Cardona of Colombia was third. And among the women another Kenyan Leah Kigen secured the gold medal and title.

She was followed in second and third by Karen Downey of Canada and third Areita Martin of Jamaica.
