Nero, Jones run away with Point 15k

Trinidad Guardian :: 28.04.2014

T&T’s champion distance runners Richard Jones and Tonya Nero were the headline acts and did not disappoint as the road running bandwagon rolled into town (early today) for the Point Fortin Borough Day 15k.

Jones breasted the Market Square finish line tape in 48 minutes 55 seconds while Nero was the first woman home in 58:21. Theirs were both commanding performances with enough Point Fortin real estate separating them from their competition to claim the top prize of $2,500 and a trophy. For their strong supporting acts, Kelvin Johnson (49:53) and Jenelle Nedd (59:59) were each rewarded with $2,000.

Lionel Dandrade (51:08) and Shania Francis (1:09:57) were the overall third-place male and female finishers and their prize was $1,000.

In the 7.5 km Fun Run/Walk, Errol “Baldhead” Williams was the emphatic winner in 30 minutes 49 seconds with Lizanne Philemon emerging as the top female clocking 1:04:00.
