Lendore, Bellille into NCAA finals

Deon Lendore has been drawn in lane four for today’s men’s 400 metres final, at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championships, in Eugene, Oregon, USA.

Lendore goes into the championship race as the fastest qualifier, his 45.18 seconds run having earned the Texas A&M University student the easiest of victories in heat one on Wednesday, the opening day of the collegiate meet. His closest challenger clocked 45.83.

Another Trinidad and Tobago/Texas A&M athlete, Carlyle Roudette finished fifth in the same heat in 46.36 seconds, and did not advance to the eight-man final. He was 14th overall. Texas A&M’s Janeil Bellille will make her bid for precious metal in the women’s 400m hurdles from lane six. The T&T athlete topped heat three on Wednesday in 56.44 seconds--the third fastest time in the qualifying round.

Also on Wednesday, Shermund Allsop was part of the Louisiana State University (LSU) men’s 4x100m team that finished second in heat two in 38.85 seconds, advancing to tomorrow’s final third fastest, behind heat two winners Texas A&M (38.60) and heat three victors University of Florida (38.77).

After press time, last night (T&T time), Wayne Davis II began the defence of his men’s 110m hurdles title. The Texas A&M University senior was drawn to run in lane five in the first of three qualifying heats. Another T&T athlete, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student Durell Busby was in lane seven in the same heat.

In the women’s 100m hurdles preliminaries, North Dakota State University’s Deborah John competed in heat two. She was drawn in lane one.

The men’s and women’s 4x400m heats were also contested last night.
