THOMPSON GOLDEN

Richard “Torpedo” Thompson continued his fine run of form, striking gold yesterday at the Bislett Games IAAF Diamond League meet, in Oslo, Norway.

Running into a 0.6 metres per second headwind, the Trinidad and Tobago sprinter stopped the clock at 10.02 seconds, getting home ahead of Frenchman Jimmy Vicaut, the runner-up in 10.04, Great Britain’s Adam Gemili (10.11) and former world champion Kim Collins (10.13) of St Kitts and Nevis.

Thompson won in Clermont, Florida, two Saturdays ago, in a wind-assisted 9.74 seconds--his fastest-ever run in any conditions. He followed up with victory on Sunday at the Fanny Blankers-Koen Games, in Hengelo, Netherlands, the 2008 Olympic 100m silver medallist getting to the line in 9.95 seconds--his fastest wind-legal clocking since 2011.

On Saturday, at the New Jersey International in the United States, Annie Alexander earned an impressive double. The T&T field athlete threw the iron ball 16.23 metres for victory in the women’s shot put. And in the discus, she topped the field with a 53.01m effort.

Emanuel Mayers clocked 51.69 seconds for silver in the men’s 400m hurdles. Andre Marcano was sixth in the men’s 100m final in 10.80 seconds. He had clocked 10.75 in the qualifying round.

Odou Hazel finished eighth in the men’s 400m in 47.85 seconds. And in the men’s 800m, Jameel Walcott was 12th in one minute, 52.93 seconds.

At an international meet, in Rehlingen, Germany, on Monday, T&T’s Kyle Greaux bagged bronze in the men’s 200m in 20.77 seconds.

Kai Selvon finished third in the women’s 200m, at the American Track League meet, in Texas, USA, last Friday. She got home in 23.11 seconds.

And at the All-Comers meet, in Jamaica, on Saturday, T&T sprinter John Mark Constantine clocked 10.51 seconds to finish fifth in the men’s 100m “B” race.
