Davis defends NCAA title

Trinidad and Tobago's Wayne Davis II will be in lane five for the defence of his National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championship men's 110 metres hurdles title, in Eugene, Oregon, USA, this evening (T&T time).

In the qualifying round, late on Thursday, Davis won heat one in 13.36 seconds, the Texas A&M University student leading all qualifiers into the final.

Another T&T athlete, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student Durell Busby finished fourth in the same heat in 13.75, earning a spot in the final as a "fastest loser". He has been drawn in lane one for the championship race.

In the women's 100m hurdles preliminaries, Deborah John finished fifth in heat two and 15th overall in 13.47 seconds. The top eight advanced to the final.

Carlyle Roudette and Deon Lendore were part of the Texas A&M men's 4x400m team that returned a time of three minutes, 00.76 seconds to win heat one, advancing to this evening's final as the fastest qualifiers.

And Janeil Bellille helped Texas A&M to victory in heat two in the women's 4x400m in 3:28.89. Bellille is expected to be back in the line-up for the championship race.

Also on show today will be Steve Waithe. The Pennsylvania State University student bids for honours in the men's triple jump. And in the men's 4x100m final, Shermund Allsop is expected to be part of the Louisiana State University (LSU) team, while Lendore is likely to be in the Texas A&M line-up.

Late yesterday, Bellille battled for precious metal in the women's 400m hurdles, and Lendore competed in the men's 400m final.
