Newsday :: 20.06.2014

WORLD CHAMPION Jehue Gordon was seventh in the men 400-metre hurdles in 49.81 seconds while Keston Bledman placed third in 10.23 in the BMW men 100m at Adidas Grand Prix in New York.

Olympic bronze medallist Lalonde Gordon ran 45.68 but placed eighth and last while Cleopatra Borel won the women’s shot put with a throw of 19.04 metres.

Bledman’s performance will put an end to concerns about his injury status after pulling up in a 100m at Clermont, Florida where Richard Thompson was the winner in a wind-aided 9.74 seconds.

Bledman is the defending national 100m champion at this year’s NGC/Sagicor Open Championships, which will be held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo next weekend (June 20-22). The meet will be used to select the Trinidad and Tobago team for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games which will be held at Glassgow, Scotland on July 23 to August 3.

Performances by Richard Thompson, Keston Bledman, Rondel Sorrillo, Marc Burns and Darrel Brown are expected in the men 100m. With the absence of Kelly-Ann Baptiste and Semoy Hackett, young Michelle Lee-Ahye who is ranked fourth in the world on the IAAF performance list with a time of 11.04 seconds will be going head to head with Kai Selvon.
