Brown on the rebound

Newsday :: 26.06.2014

ON SATURDAY, at the 2014 NGC/Sagicor General-sponsored Senior/Open National Championship held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, fans of Trinidad and Tobago track and field were reminded that former World Junior record-holder, 2003 World Championship silver medallist and former national champion Darrel Brown still has gas in his tank.

Brown finished third in the men’s 100-metres final, following Richard Thompson and Keston Bledman, who were first and second in 9.82 seconds (national record) and 10.00 respectively.

The locally-based Brown admitted that this season started off slow but his form started coming together just in time for the National Championship.

He said, “My performance this weekend was good, one of my best races since 2009 so I can not complain. After being out for the past few seasons running top three feels good and it shows my training is going in the right direction.”

He ended, “The rest of the season would be spent getting ready for Commonwealth Games and giving my best performance and ending the season on a strong note.”

Brown will accompany Thompson, Bledman, Marc Burns and Rondel Sorrillo to make up the men’s 4x100m relay team at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland from July 23 to August 3.
