Jehue, Solomon 2nd in Dublin

Reigning world champion Jehue Gordon seized silver in the men’s 400 metres hurdles, at the Morton Games in Dublin, Ireland, yesterday. The Trinidad and Tobago athlete got home in 49.48 seconds to finish behind Ireland’s Thomas Barr, the winner in 48.94, and ahead of Brazilian Mahau Suguimati (49.94).

Another T&T athlete, Jarrin Solomon picked up silver in the men’s 400m in 45.34 seconds--his fastest clocking this season and the third fastest time of his career. American Brycen Spratling topped the field in 45.27.

Jamaal James also produced a season’s best at the Morton Games. The T&T half-miler finished eighth in the men’s 800m in one minute, 47.06 seconds--the fourth fastest time of his career. Ireland’s Mark English won in 1:45.30.

At the British Athletics Grand Prix IAAF Diamond League meet, in Glasgow, Scotland, yesterday, T&T’s Richard “Torpedo” Thompson was sixth in the men’s 100m “A” race in 10.09 seconds. Jamaica’s Nickel Ashmeade won in 9.97, finishing just ahead of American Michael Rodgers, who was credited with the same time. Another Jamaican, Nesta Carter clocked 9.98 for third spot in a very close finish.

Yohan Blake, however, did not finish the race, pulling up with a hamstring injury. The 100m “B” race was won by yet another Jamaican, Kemar Bailey-Cole outclassing the field with a 10.03 seconds run.

T&T hurdler, Wayne Davis II clocked 13.52 seconds to finish fifth in heat two and 10th overall in the qualifying round of the men’s 110m hurdles. The top nine advanced to the final, which was won by Great Britain’s William Sharman in 13.21.
