T&T earn 8 medals at Commonwealth 2014

T&T secured bronze in the men's 4x100 metres relay to finish Commonwealth 2014 with eight medals - three silver and five bronze. Keston Bledman, Marc Burns, Rondel Sorrillo and Richard "Torpedo" Thompson combined for a 38.10 seconds clocking.

Usain Bolt performed anchorman duties as Jamaica won in a Games record time of 37.58 seconds. Silver went to England in 38.02.

Keshorn saves best for last

Keshorn Walcott earned silver in the men's javelin. The reigning Olympic champion produced his best throw of the competition in the sixth and final round, landing the spear 82.67 metres. Kenyan Julius Yego got the gold with an 83.87m effort, while bronze went to Australia's Hamish Peacock (81.75m).

T&T finished fifth in the women's 4x400 metres relay. Shawna Fermin, Domonique Williams, Janeil Bellille and Romona Modeste teamed up for a 3:33.50 clocking. Jamaica won in 3:23.82 - a new Games record.

The T&T combination of Deborah John, Reyare Thomas, Lisa Wickham and Kamaria Durant finished eighth in the women's 4x100 metres final in 44.78 seconds. Jamaica, anchored by two-time Olympic 100 metres champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, struck gold in 41.83 - a new Games record.

Gordon, Solomon, Quow, Hewitt clock 3:01.51

T&T captured bronze in the men's 4x400 metres relay. Lalonde Gordon, Jarrin Solomon, Renny Quow and Zwede Hewitt combined for third spot in the final in three minutes, 01.51 seconds. England won in 3:00.46, while Bahamas (3:00.51) finished second.

Yego takes the lead

Keshorn Walcott is in second spot halfway through the men's javelin competition. Kenyan Julius Yego took the lead in the third round with an 83.87 metres effort, forcing Walcott into second spot. Walcott's best throw so far came in the opening round - 82.13 metres.

Keshorn throws 82.13 metres

Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott has taken the early lead in the men's javelin final. The Olympic champion threw 82.13 metres in the opening round, and is in front going into round two.

Sprint relay men qualify fastest

Trinidad and Tobago will be represented in all four relay finals today. Late in Friday's session, the 4x100 metres teams produced qualifying performances. Earlier on, the 4x4 teams qualified.

In the men's 4x1, Keston Bledman, Marc Burns, Rondel Sorrillo and Richard "Torpedo" Thompson won heat one in 38.33 seconds to go into the final with the fastest time.

In the women's 4x1, Deborah John, Reyare Thomas, Lisa Wickham and Kamaria Durant clocked 44.47 seconds to finish third in heat two, progressing automatically.

Alexander loses on points in semis

Trinidad and Tobago boxer Michael Alexander earned bronze in the Commonwealth Games men's lightweight division. In his semifinal bout, on Friday, Alexander lost a unanimous decision to Northern Ireland's Joe Fitzpatrick.

T&T were beaten 2-0 by Wales in the men's hockey ninth-place playoff, and finished last in the 10-team competition.

Pearson wins sprint hurdles final

Josanne Lucas clocked 13.41 seconds to finish seventh in the women’s 100 metres hurdles final. Gold went to Australia’s Sally Pearson in 12.67. England’s Tiffany Porter (12.80) earned silver, while bronze went to Canada’s Angela Whyte (13.02).

Keshorn breaks national record

Keshorn Walcott broke his own national record in the men's javelin qualifying event. Walcott threw 85.28 metres in the opening round to better the 84.58m standard he had set in winning Olympic gold in 2012. The javelin landed well beyond the 78.00m automatic qualifying mark. The final takes place today.

Men win heat 2 in 3:04.06

Trinidad and Tobago's 4x400 metres relay teams will bid for precious metal at Hampden Park tomorrow (Saturday).

In the men's 4x4 qualifying round, today, T&T were comfortable winners of heat two, 400m bronze medallist Lalonde Gordon, Jarrin Solomon, 400m hurdles silver medallist Jehue Gordon and Zwede Hewitt combining for a three minutes, 04.06 seconds clocking.

In the women's 4x4, T&T clocked 3:33.26 to finish third in heat one, securing an automatic berth in the final.

Josanne second in qualifying heat

Josanne Lucas finished second in her qualifying heat to advance automatically to the women's 100 metres hurdles final. She clocked 13.38 seconds.

Another T&T athlete, Deborah John clocked 13.63 for fifth spot in heat three, and did not qualify for the final.

Gordon clocks his fastest 2014 time

Jehue Gordon earned silver in the men's 400 metres hurdles final.

The Trinidad and Tobago athlete produced a 48.75 seconds run - his fastest clocking this season - to finish second in the championship race. Gold went to Cornel Fredericks, the South African clocking 48.50. Bahamian Jeffery Gibson, meanwhile, took the bronze in 48.78.

200 runners out

Rondel Sorrillo missed out on a lane in the Commonwealth Games men’s 200 metres final by three-hundredths of a second.

Running in lane one, the Trinidad and Tobago sprinter clocked 20.57 seconds to finish third in the second semifinal heat. The clocking was too slow for a "fastest loser" berth in the final.

Kyle Greaux got to the line in 20.93 seconds to finish seventh in heat three, and was also eliminated.

In the second women’s 200m semifinal, Reyare Thomas was third in 23.35 seconds. The clocking was not fast enough to earn her a lane in the final as a “fastest loser”.

Third Commonwealth podium finish for Cleo

Cleopatra Borel and Lalonde Gordon earned medals for Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday.

Borel threw 18.57 metres for silver in the women's shot put--her third medal in four Commonwealth Games.

And in the men's 400 metres, Gordon bagged bronze in 44.78 seconds.

T&T high jumper 17th in qualifying

Deandra Daniel cleared the bar at 1.76 metres to finish 17th in the women's high jump qualifying competition. The top 12 progressed to the final.

In the women's 800m, Alena Brooks returned a time of two minutes, 06.33 seconds to finish sixth in heat two and 21st overall. Sixteen half-milers moved on to the semis.

And Women's triple jump bronze medallist Ayanna Alexander exited the long jump event at the qualifying stage. Her 5.77m leap earned her 23rd spot.

T&T sprinters progress

Kyle Greaux and Rondel Sorrillo are both through to the semifinal round of the men's 200 metres event. Both advanced via the "fastest loser" route.

Greaux finished third in the 10th and final heat in 20.79 seconds to progress as the fastest of the four "fastest losers" that advanced. Sorrillo was the slowest of the four, clocking 20.98 for third spot in heat two.

Jereem Richards was third in heat three in 21.13, and did not advance.

World champion tops heat one

Jehue Gordon cruised into the men's 400 metres hurdles final. The reigning world champion clocked 49.42 seconds to finish first in heat one, advancing as the second fastest qualifier.

Emanuel Mayers, however, clocked 50.51 to finish sixth in heat three, and was eliminated.

George clocks 22.31

A 22.31 seconds clocking in Tuesday's men's 50 metres freestyle final earned George Bovell fifth spot. England’s Benjamin Proud won in 21.92.

Unanimous decision

A unanimous decision in his quarterfinal bout with Barbadian Cobia Breedy, on Tuesday, has guaranteed Trinidad and Tobago lightweight boxer Michael Alexander a medal, here at the Commonwealth Games.

In the semifinal round, Alexander will square off against Northern Ireland's Joe Fitzpatrick.

Ayanna jumps 14.01 metres

Ayanna Alexander became Trinidad and Tobago's first medallist at Glasgow 2014 when she captured bronze in the women's triple jump.

A silver medallist in the same event four years ago in Delhi, India, Alexander increased her tally with a 14.01 metres effort at Hampden Park, today (Tuesday). Jamaica's Kimberly Williams (14.21m) struck gold, while silver went to England's Laua Samuel (14.09m).

Browne scores 3 for T&T

Trinidad and Tobago got the better of Malaysia 4-2 in a men's hockey fixture. Kwandwane Browne scored three times for T&T, while the other goal came from Mickell Pierre.

13 goals for Cooper

Trinidad and Tobago's netballers suffered a 70-24 whipping in their showdown with England. The top scorer for T&T was goal attack Joelisa Cooper, with 13 goals from 16 attempts.

Kendis, Jamaal not at their best

Kendis Bullard and Jamaal James were not at their best in the opening round of the men's 800 metres.

Bullard returned a time of one minute, 51.57 seconds to finish sixth in heat two. James was marginally slower in heat four, clocking 1:51.62 to finish fourth. The top three in each heat earned automatic semifinal berths. Neither Bullard nor James was fast enough to get to the penultimate round via the "fastest loser" route.

And in the men's long jump qualifying event, Kyron Blaise was unable to produce a legal jump

False start exit for Lucas

Janeil Bellille clocked 57.51 seconds for fourth spot in heat three in the women's 400 metres hurdles. The clocking was not fast enough for the T&T athlete to progress to the final as a "fastest loser". The other T&T athlete in the event, Josanne Lucas was disqualified in heat one for a false start.

Thomas clocks 13.86

Mikel Thomas was eliminated in the qualifying round of the men's 110 metres hurdles, on Tuesday morning. The Trinidad and Tobago athlete clocked 13.86 seconds to finish fourth in the opening heat. Only the top two advanced automatically to the final, and Thomas' time was too slow for a "fastest loser" berth.

Two other T&T athletes, Durell Busby and Wayne Davis were non-starters in the sprint hurdles because of injury.

Ayanna jumps 13.78 metres

Ayanna Alexander jumped 13.78 metres to finish second in the women's triple jump qualifying competition. The final will be contested today.

T&T sprinters third in semifinal heats

Trinidad and Tobago sprinters Richard "Torpedo" Thompson and Keston Bledman exited at the semifinal stage of the men's 100 metres event.

Bledman finished third in the opening semi in 10.24 seconds, while Thompson was third in heat three in 10.19. Neither time was fast enough for a "fastest loser" berth in the final.

Kai Selvon and Kamaria Durant were eliminated In the women's 100m semis. Selvon clocked 11.59 seconds to finish sixth in heat three, while Durant was eighth in heat two in 11.70.

Unanimous decision for T&T boxer

Aaron Prince outclassed his Bahamian opponent, Godfrey Strachan in their men's middleweight round of 16 bout. The Trinidad and Tobago boxer was always in control, accumulating points throughout to earn a unanimous decision.

Cooper scores 15

Goal attack Joelisa Cooper scored 15 goals from 24 attempts in Trinidad and Tobago's 69-34 defeat at the hands of Australia in the Commonwealth Games netball competition. Goal shoot Kalifa McCollin chipped in with 10 goals from 15 attempts.

T&T shooter 3rd in qualifying

Roger Daniel finished seventh in the men's 50 metres pistol final.The Trinidad and Tobago shooter became the second man to be eliminated in the eight-man final, finishing with a score of 90.5.

In the qualifying round, earlier in the day, Daniel totalled 545 to advance to the final with the third highest score. His T&T teammate, Rhodney Allen was 18th with a score of 501.

In the men's 50 metres rifle prone qualification event, T&T's Marlon Moses totalled 599.5 to finish 31st. The top eight contested the final.

George clocks 22.37

George Bovell is into the men's 50 metres freestyle semis. The Trinidad and Tobago swimmer clocked 22.37 seconds to finish third in heat nine and fifth overall, progressing to the semifinal round fifth fastest

Gordon second in heat seven

Lalonde Gordon clocked 45.84 seconds to finish second in heat seven in the men's 400 metres, joining his Trinidad and Tobago teammates, Jarrin Solomon and Renny Quow in the semifinal round. England's Martyn Rooney topped the heat in 45.57.

Quartermilers qualify

Trinidad and Tobago quartermilers, Jarrin Solomon and Renny Quow were comfortable winners of their respective heats in the opening round of the men's 400 metres, here at Hampden Park, today (Monday).

Solomon won the opening heat in 45.69 seconds, finishing well ahead of the runner-up, Guyana's Winston George (46.25).

In heat two, Quow clocked 45.86 to get home first, ahead of Australia's Steve Solomon (46.26).

The third T&T entrant, Lalonde Gordon will run in heat seven.

Later today, Keston Bledman and Richard "Torpedo" Thompson will run in the men's 100 metres semis, and would be hoping to advance to the final and challenge for precious metal.

Michelle-Lee Ahye qualified for the women's 100 metres semis, but has pulled out of the event and the rest of the Games because of a left leg injury.

Two other T&T sprinters, Kai Selvon and Kamaria Durant will run in the women's 100 metres semis

Dylan clocks 49.56

T&T swimmer Dylan Carter finished fifth in the men's 100 metres freestyle final. Just 18, Carter performed with distinction in the championship race, getting home in 49.56 seconds.

Australia swept the medals. James Magnussen won in 48.11, from Cameron McEvoy (48.34) and Tommaso D'Orsogna (49.04).

Michelle-Lee's left leg strapped

Michelle-Lee Ahye finished second in her women's 100 metres first round heat in 11.52 seconds to book an automatic berth in the semifinal round. However, the T&T sprinter's left leg was heavily strapped, and she seemed to be struggling.

Kai Selvon clocked 11.66 for fourth spot in heat two, progressing to the semis as a "fastest loser". And the third T&T sprinter, Kamaria Durant was fourth in heat six. Her 11.80 run also earned her a "fastest loser" berth in the semis.

Keston wins in 10.16

Keston Bledman and Richard "Torpedo" Thompson are through to the men's 100 metres semis.

In the first round, Bledman topped heat nine in 10.16 seconds to qualify second fastest overall. Thompson, though, finished third in heat three in 10.33, and got into the semis as a "fastest loser". The other T&T sprinter listed to compete, Darrel Brown was a non-starter.

George focuses on 50 free

George Bovell III has opted out of today's men's 50 metres backstroke final.

The Trinidad and Tobago swimmer established a new national record in yesterday's semifinal round, touching the wall in 25.39 seconds. However, he has decided to skip the championship race in order to rest ahead of his pet event, the 50m freestyle.

Bovell tweeted: "Scratched the backstroke final -Non stop racing till Tuesday would hinder me by the time I need to feel my best in the main event. Focused!"

Bovell's father and T&T swimming manager, George Bovell II confirmed a short while ago that Bovell will skip the 50 back final.
