Trinidad Guardian :: 01.09.2014

T&T Olympian Richard Thompson claimed gold at the IAAF World Challenge Meet in Berlin, Germany, yesterday, clocking 10.15 (-0.2) seconds in the men’s 100m.

Thompson edged USA’s Dentarius Locke 10.16 seconds, while another T&T Olympic runner, Keston Bledman, came in third in 10.23 seconds.

Both T&T runners came off disappointing campaigns at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where neither managed a spot in the men’s 100m final.

Last Thurdsay, Thompson was in action at the IAAF Diamond League in Zurich, Switzerland, where he placed seventh in 10.26 seconds.

Also last week, competing in the Stockholm leg of the Diamond League, Beldman placed second in the same distance.

Meanwhile, Cleopatra Borel, T&T’s lone woman’s represtative at the World Challenge Meet placed third in the shot put. The Commonwealth silver medalist threw 18.53m, behind winner Christina Schwanitz of Germany (19.53m) and Evgeniia Kolodko of Russia (19.43). Borel stands at number seven in the world rankings.
