Nero 3rd in NACAC 10K

Tonya Nero finished third in the women’s race in the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) 10K, in Petit-Bourg, Guadeloupe, on Saturday. The Trinidad and Tobago athlete completed the course in 38 minutes, 44 seconds.

Kenya’s Leah Kigen was the class of the field, getting to the finish line in 36:43 for a comfortable cushion on second-placed Martha Vazquez (37:48), of Mexico. Vincentian Linda McDowell (40:52) was fourth.

Carlos Romero easily won the NACAC 10K men’s title, the Mexican getting home in 30:40. Rwanda’s Dieudonne Disi (31:59) and Kenyan Richard Kesio (32:04) finished second and third, respectively.

T&T’s Curtis Cox was seventh in 34:02, crossing the finish line 13 seconds after sixth-placed Vincentian Pamenos Ballantyne (33:49). Eighth spot went to Guyana’s Cleveland Thomas (34:33).
