Nero dominates South American 10K

Trinidad Guardian :: 28.10.2014

T&T’s Tonya Nero was the runaway winner of the women’s crown, while Richard Jones was edged for second at the IAAF South American 10K, held in Georgetown, Guyana, on Sunday.

Nero, who opted for the Guyanese challenge, instead of trying to defend her UWI Half Marathon crown on the same day, finished nearly a minute-and-a-half ahead of local favourite Euleen Josiah-Tanner, after leading from start to finish. She closed in 37:35:46, while Josiah-Tenner clocked 39:02:49. Another T&T runner, Jenelle Nedd placed fifth in 41:21:68.

On the men’s side, Jones, who held a short-lived lead in the race, finished less than 12 seconds shy of Forde, who completed the course in 32:27:39. Jones clocked 32:39:21.
