Nero 12th at NACAC Champs

Tonya Nero emerged as the top Trinidad and Tobago athlete at the 2017 North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) Cross Country Championships in Boca Raton, Florida, USA, yesterday.

Nero finished 12th in the women's eight-kilometre event, the 28-year-old athlete completing the course in 29 minutes, 11 seconds. Nero had earned silver at the 2012 NACAC Cross Country Championships, in Trinidad. The other T&T athlete in yesterday's race, Samantha Shukla was 18th in 31:34.

Canadian Sasha Gollish was the class of the field, grabbing gold in 26:49, ahead of Americans Amy Van Alstine (27:00) and Megan Rolland (27:04). Canada topped the women's team event, earning 18 points with an average time of 27:12.
