Lewis was the fastest man on show in Saturday's semifinal round, stopping the clock at a personal best 7.92 seconds to top heat two and lead all qualifiers into the championship race. Had Lewis reproduced that run in the final, he would have emerged with the title. Lewis was also the fastest in the preliminaries, the 21-year-old athlete winning heat one in 8.11 seconds.

Haysean Cowie-Clarke clocked 6.88 seconds to finish fifth in the men's 60m dash. The Coppin State senior had booked his lane in yesterday's final with a 6.91 runner-up finish in the second semifinal heat, on Saturday. In the opening round, Cowie-Clarke produced a 7.02 run to finish fourth in his heat, progressing to the semis as a "fastest loser".
