Bronze for Denoon, Cowie-Clarke at Penn Relays

T&T's Zakiya Denoon bagged a bronze medal in the College Women's 100 metres final at the 123rd Penn Relays Carnival, the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

Denoon of Monroe College crossed third in a time of 11.31 seconds.

Another local athlete Haysean Cowie-Clarke also picked up a bronze with his Coppin State University relay team in 40.57 in the College Men's 4x100m final. The senior later ran in the 4x200m and his team was seventh in 1:24.82.

Queen's Royal College quartet of Akil Boisson (50.49), Jerod Elcock (47.30), Jahi Hernandez (48.65) and Joshua St. Clair (48.06) placed eight in the final of the High School Boys' 4x400m Championship of America final in 3:20.99. This after winning its heat earlier in 3:14.48 to qualify.

Fatima College team of Justen O'Brien (51.13), Judah Taylor (48.44), Kion Benjamin (51.01), Myles Jackson (50.58) clocked 3:21.15 to cross first in the the High School Boys' 4x400 Suburban A

However, Fatima missed its race and was permitted to run in this race but is not considered the winner of the race.

Late Friday, Dawnel Collymore and her Monroe College team placed 23rd in 4:08.54 in the

College Women's Sprint Medley Championship of America Invitational.

In the Men's version of the race the University of T&T (UTT) of Hakeem Gomez, Lincoln Lonndon, Tauren George and Kyle Stanley placed 26th in 3:35.59.

At the SEC Relays held at the Bernie Moore Stadium in Baton Rouge, Los Angeles, Reubin Walters of the University of Alabama nabbed a silver in the men's 110m hurdles in a time of 13.52. Later, the junior was eighth in the 400m hurdles in 54.36.

Akanni Hislop and his Louisiana State University team placed second in the men's 4x200m in 1:22.31.

Shermund Alsop of Tiger Olympians placed 13th in both the men's 100m (10.49) and 200m (21.54).
