SUB-20 SIZZLER!

Jereem joins elite 200 club

Jereem Richards joined an elite club when he clocked 19.97 seconds to top his men's 200 metres quarter-final heat at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 East Preliminary meet in Kentucky, USA, on Saturday night. 

The University of Alabama junior became only the second Trinidad and Tobago athlete to dive under 20 seconds in the half-lap event. Before Saturday's sizzler, Ato Boldon was the lone member of the "T&T Sub-20" club, the quadruple Olympic medallist standing head and shoulders above his compatriots with his 19.77 seconds national record. Richards joined Boldon with a dominant run in heat three, finishing the race 41-hundredths of a second faster than his closest rival.

In a Facebook post on Saturday night, Richards expressed his gratitude.

"All I have to say is my God is mighty and ever faithful…thank you Lord 'cause you kept me !!!!!"
