Lessons from Laos

One of the challenges with offering an opinion is to find a different way of saying the same thing. So it was with some relief that I listened to a former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) operative, speaking in an interview on BBC World Service radio yesterday morning, give a straightforward rationale to the United States' covert military operations during the Vietnam War in the late 1960's and early 1970's, specifically with reference to the use of child soldiers in the neighbouring south-east Asian nation of Laos.
