Athletic coach plans protest

Training affected as major facilities tied up in Carnival events

Mark Pouchet :: Trinidad Express :: 25.01.2018

With the NAAA hosting their Commonwealth Trials from February 17-18, the Sports Company of Trinidad and Tobago has advised athletic clubs of the closure of the Hasely Crawford Stadium (HCS) and the Jean Pierre Complex (JPC), started from Wednesday and lasting until February 13, because the venue will be hosting several Carnival fetes.

However SPORTT advised that the external field, newly refurbished warm-up track and the strength and conditioning gym will continue to be available "for use upon request."

But president of the Mustangs Athletics Club Richard Yearwood, whose athlete Daniel Gibbs is attempting to qualify for the quadrennial games and whose club is one of several that use the HCS as their home base, is miffed at the closure.
