T&T’s Murray golden again

T&T field athlete Cherisse Murray's amazing run this season for Central Arizona College continued on the weekend with her capturing another double gold at the Mesa Indoor meet at the Mesa Community College's John D Riggs Stadium in Arizona, USA.

The freshman again won the women's shot put and weight throw, achieving the feat two times already this season.

At the Arizona meet in the shot put event, Murray's winning throw came on her fifth attempt, measuring 15.41 metres, following her marks of 14.69m, 15.08m, 14.90m, 14.82m, respectively, closing off with a 14.64m-throw.

In the weight throw, Murray's opening try of 15.18m earned her the top spot on the podium. She had three fouled throws in this event while reaching 14.18m in her second try and 13.26 in her fifth.

Her first double gold came at the Puma Indoor Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona on January 26 when she hit one of the top marks in the NJCAA this season, producing a 15.92m-throw in the shot put. In the weight throw, she won with a best effort of 14.71.

A week later, she did it again at the Jim Mielke Invitational at Pima Community College in Tucson with a winning 15.19m toss in the shot put and a best throw of 14.63m in the weight throw.

Added to that she got gold (15.03) in the shot put event at the Pima Aztec Invitational in Tucson on January 20

Her performances thus far has helped The Vaqueras remain in the top five position in the NJCAA rankings, with them making its biggest move on the week, returning to second after falling to fourth last week.
