Shukla 31st in Pan Am Cross Country

SAMANTHA SHUKLA finished 31st in the women's 10-kilometre event at the Pan American Cross Country Championships in El Salvador, yesterday. The Trinidad and Tobago athlete got home in 42 minutes, 25 seconds. Shukla was 21st among the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) athletes in the race.

Ecuador's Carmen Toaquiza emerged as Pan Am champion with a 35:04 run. Peruvians Gladys Machacuay (35:06) and Luz Rojas (35:07) were second and third, respectively.

In the men's 10K, Shirvan Baboolal finished 40th in 35:02. His T&T teammate George Smith produced a 36:25 run to secure 42nd spot. Baboolal was 31st in the NACAC category, while Smith was 33rd.
