Clarke breaks T&T indoor 200 record

Kwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 26.02.2018

Kayelle Clarke erased a seven-year-old Trinidad and Tobago record from the books at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Indoor Track and Field Championships in Texas, USA, late on Sunday. Competing in the women's 200 metres finals, the University of Kentucky senior produced a 22.83 seconds run to improve on the 22.84 standard established by Semoy Hackett in 2011.

Clarke's fine run earned her bronze, the 21-year-old T&T sprinter finishing second in section one and third overall. With the 22.83 clocking, Clarke is fourth on the 2018 world indoor performance list, behind Americans Lynna Irby (22.66), Mikiah Brisco (22.81) and Deanna Hill (22.82). Irby and Brisco claimed gold and silver, respectively, at the SEC Championships.
