Is Michelle in or out 4x100m relays?

There is still a possibility that Michelle-Lee Ahye will feature for T&T in the women's 4x100 metres relay at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia.

The positive feedback came from T&T's sprint coach Ian Carter.

"All is not lost. We are still talking with Michelle, she loves to represent her country. And we will see," said Carter, T&T's sprint coach.

Following her win in the women's 100 metres sprint when asked what the medal means ahead of the women's 4x100m relay, then Ahye responded, "The girls are going good although I am not running the relays. My coach told me only the one hundred, the girls told me they will miss me, nevertheless, they will get the stick around and run well. They will be all right."

However, there were reports in the T&T media that indicated that Ahye had made her decision long before the Commonwealth Games started not to contest the 4x100m relay event following comments made by former Olympian Ato Boldon towards her. Boldon coaches Khalifa St Fort, who is also on the relay team.

Carter admitted that he and his team are communicating with the sprint champion.

"There is no change at the moment from what was said earlier but we as a management team are continuing to try to see if we can have Michelle compete in the relays," said Carter.

He continued, "We are working on this as we speak. We have not given up because we know how important this is for everyone and to all."

Asked if Ahye has made herself available for the event Carter responded, "She is in the pool of athletes nominated to run the relays so that will not be a problem. In fact, as we speak it appears that only a total of nine teams have entered for the women's 4x100 metres relay event so we are uncertain if there will be a semifinals or just a straight finals on Saturday. However, Michelle will be allowed to race if she's available because her name was originally given, that is important."
