Smith wins Health 5k race

George Smith of the Defence Force won the Health For All 5K race on April 14 and held by San Fernando East MP Randall Mitchell in conjunction with AIM Fitness. Randall Mitchell, the Tourism Minister started the race which started and finished at the Pleasantville Community Centre, San Fernando.

It was a comprehensive victory by Smith clocking 15 minutes 55 seconds adding to his recent victories at the Costaatt 5K and the Southern Games 5,000m. In second place was Kelvin Johnson in 16:21. Anthony Phillip (17:13) was third, Omesh Persaud (17:52) was fourth and the 16-year-old nephew of Smith, Matthew Pulchan (18:09) finished fifth.

Leading the women's field home was Zinara Lesley, who clocked 21 minutes 22 seconds. Lesley is the daughter of former standout road runner Everton "Hawkeye" Lesley. Chantel Le Maitre (22:42) came in second, Paula Bhagwandin (24:39) was third, Alicia King (27:35) was fourth, and Sharon Chance-Brown (28:02) crossed in fifth place.
