Abilene doubles for Durant, Sterling

Kamaria Durant captured the Abilene Track Classic women's sprint double at the Larry Gomes Stadium, in Arima, yesterday. The Simplex sprinter topped the 100 metres dash in 11.51 seconds and the 200m in 24-flat.

There was a double too for Tacuma Sterling. The Alpha Athletic Club athlete won the men's 400m in 47.82 seconds and the 200m in 21.06. But the fastest 200 yesterday was clocked by Timothy Frederick, the Simplex sprinter winning the boys' under-20 half-lap in 20.98 seconds. Frederick also triumphed in the boys' under-20 100m event, getting home in 10.64.

Jerod Elcock was golden in the men's 100m, the Abilene athlete clocking 10.55 seconds to get the better of Jalen Purcell, the runner-up in 10.59.

Cougars half-miler Ashton Gill returned a time of one minute, 54.29 seconds to win the men's 800m.

Shaniqua Bascombe of Cougars and Memphis Pioneers athlete Rae-Anne Serville were impressive in the girls' under-17 category. Bascombe was victorious in the 100m and 200m events, clocking 11.78 seconds and 24.57. And Serville won the 400m in 56.65--the fastest female one-lap time at the Abilene Track Classic.
