Pulchan, Bailey claim Cross Country titles

Matthew Pulchan sped across the line at the Queen's Park Savannah in Port-of-Spain to win the 6k at T&T Secondary Schools Track and Field Association Cross Country and Health Fair on Sunday.

The Point Fortin West Secondary distance runner, last year's 4K winner, clocked 22 minutes and 19 seconds to emerge the overall and the Boys Over-17 champion in a competitive race which saw Iere High's Wesley Rampersad cross in 22.29 to place second.

Rampersad was the winner in the Boys' Under-17 category with Isaiah Mayers, also of Point Fortin West, the runner-up and third overall in a time of 22.44. 

In the girls' version, it was a race to the line and crossing first was East Mucurapo Janeil Bailey in 27.44, finishing just ahead of Camille Lewis of Sangre Grande in 27.46 and third was Beyonce Moses (Roxborough) in 29.33. Bailey was champion of the U-17 category, Moses was second and Jean Marie Farinha (Bishop Anstey East) in 29.34.

In the 4K, overall and boys Under-15 champion was Kaled John (Point Fortin West) in 16.58, in second place was Bradley Pooran (Iere High, Siparia) in 16.59 and Migkayl Gaffor of Queen's Royal College (QRC) in 17.48 finished third.

Among the girls, Sophie Potter of the International School of Port-of-Spain (ISPS) won with a 17.31-clocking, runner-up was Kaya Rankine of St Augustine Girls' (18.02) and Kayleigh Forde (St Joseph's Convent PoS) was third in 18.18.
