Tonya Nero finished 89th in the women's race at the IAAF/Trinidad Alfonso World Half Marathon Championships in Valencia, Spain, last Saturday. The Trinidad and Tobago distance runner completed the 13.1-mile course in one hour, 17 minutes, 55 seconds.

Ethiopia's Netsanet Gudeta emerged victorious in a women-only half marathon world record time of 1:06.11. The mixed-race global record of 1:04:51 is held by Joyciline Jepkosgei. But Jepkosgei had to settle for silver on Saturday, her 1:06:54 clocking giving her a two-second cushion on the bronze medallist and fellow Kenyan Pauline Kamulu (1:06:56).

In the men's race, Geoffrey Kamworor completed a hat-trick of victories, the Kenyan getting home in 1:00:02. Bahrain's Abraham Cheroben secured silver in 1:00:22. And Eritrea's Aron Kifle clocked 1:00:31 to bag bronze
