Stewart breaks national record

Kwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 14.04.2019

Akeem Stewart broke the national shot put record at the Falcon Games, in Tobago, on Saturday. Unchallenged for the men's shot put title, Stewart was able to focus on bettering his best, and he did just that, throwing the iron ball 20.12 metres. It was the first time the Tobago Falcons field athlete had gone past the 20-metre barrier with the 7.26-kilogramme shot.

Last month, at the Hurricane Invitational in Florida, USA, Stewart threw the 6K shot 20.43m—a new F43 shot put world record. Stewart is a global para athletics star, with 2016 Paralympic gold to his name. He plans to compete at the World Para Athletics Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) in November and the Parapan American Games in Lima, Peru in August.
