Singuineau grabs gold

Shaquille Singuineau secured men's shot put gold at the Cole-Lancon Conference Challenge in Louisiana, USA, on Saturday. The University of Louisiana at Lafayette student threw the iron ball 15.86 metres.

Singuineau opened the competition at 15.53. He fouled his second throw, but was back on track in round three with a 15.44m effort. Singuineau fouled again in the fourth round. In round five, however, he produced his winning 15.86m throw. The Trinidad and Tobago field athlete closed off with a third foul.

Singuineau's best throw this season, 16.62m came on March 9 at the McNeese State Cowboy Relays, in Louisiana. He was also golden at that meet.

At the Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational, in Florida, Asha James landed the spear 46.32m to seize silver in the women's javelin. The Florida International University (FIU) athlete produced the 46.32 effort in the fourth round of the competition. She also threw 44.38, 44.06, 42.17 and 41.81.

Louisiana State University (LSU) student Akanni Hislop clocked 20.75 seconds to finish first in section two in the men's 200 metres event. He was fourth overall.

Sarah Wollaston finished first in section six and 28th overall in the women's 200m in 24.50 seconds. In the 100m dash, the University of Central Florida (UCF) sprinter topped section six in 11.92. She was 29th fastest on the day. LSU's Xavier Mulugata was seventh in section five and 32nd overall in the men's 100m in 10.84.

At the Mines Kit Mayer Invite, in Colorado, Micah Ballantyne bagged bronze in the men's 200m. The Adams State University senior clocked 21.23 seconds.
