FINISH FOR THE AGES

Super Cedenio anchors T&T to 4x4 title

Kwame Laurence :: Trinidad Express :: 13.05.2019

A storming home straight run from Machel Cedenio propelled Trinidad and Tobago to victory in the men's 4x400 metres final, at the IAAF World Relays here in Yokohama, Japan, yesterday. Deon Lendore, Jereem "The Dream" Richards, Asa Guevara and anchorman Cedenio constructed a superb four-lap effort at International Stadium Yokohama to snatch the title from three-time champions United States.

Third at the final handover, T&T found a hero in Cedenio, the 23-year-old quartermiler digging deep into his reserves to surge past Jamaican Nathon Allen on the back straight, before overhauling American anchor Paul Dedewo at the line. The heroic one-lap run handed the Red, White and Black victory in three minutes, 00.81 seconds—the fastest time in the world this year.
