Former athletics boss Ken Doldron has passed away. Doldron, who served as president of the then National Amateur Athletics Association (NAAA) between 2001 and 2006, died at hospital on Sunday. He was a career soldier, and retired as a Warrant Officer 1 (WO1).

(NAAA) president Ephraim Serrette was a vice president during Doldron's tenure as president, before taking over the reins of leadership.

"Mr Doldron would have been the one taking the sport to another level," Serrette told the Express. "We got the adidas sponsorship under his reign, and there were quite a few other changes. He brought his disciplinarian style from the army, and was all for the development of the sport."

In an NAAA release, yesterday, Serrette paid tribute to Doldron.

"NAAA extends profound and deepest sympathies and condolences to the family, friends and the athletics community on the passing of former president Ken Doldron. Mr Doldron worked tirelessly to promote the sport of track and field during the time he served as president. Through his service, he endeavoured to help change the lives of many persons in Trinidad and Tobago.

"All of his efforts in the sphere of administration are a testament to his leadership and dedication to sport. While he will be dearly missed, we trust his spirit will remain a guiding force. We are holding you all in our thoughts and prayers. May our work in the future," the release ended, "be enhanced and strengthened by the memory of the works and the principles of former president Ken Doldron."

Doldron would have celebrated his birthday, yesterday.
