The 37-year-old runner stopped the clock at one hour, five minutes, 48 seconds for a huge cushion on second-placed Richer Perez (1:09:37) of Cuba. The women's race was a far closer contest, Venezuela's Yeisy Alvarez returning a time of 1:17:59 to claim the title, ahead of Trinidad and Tobago's Tonya Nero, the runner-up in 1:18:41. From the start, at UWI SPEC in St Augustine, Too looked a contender for the US$2,500 first prize. For the first few miles, the US-based Kenyan had company at the front of the race, Mexico-based Kenyan Peter Lamayan Nkaya keeping pace as they motored along the Priority Bus Route.
