James, Alexander strike gold

Trinidad and Tobago sprinter Jamol James struck gold in the men's 60 metres dash, at the Akron Invitational, in Ohio, USA, yesterday. The University of Tennessee freshman stopped the clock at 6.72 seconds.

Another T&T/Tennessee athlete, Annie Alexander threw 16.32 metres to emerge victorious in the women’s shot put.

At the Vulcan Invitational, in Alabama, University of Southern Mississippi junior Robert Collingwood topped the men's shot put field with a 17.43m heave. His twin brother and Southern Mississippi teammate, Richard Collingwood threw 16.05m to cop fifth spot. Robert also competed in the weight throw, finishing 18th with a 13.91m throw.

Stann Waithe was fourth in the men's 400m in 48.24 seconds, while Cowin Mills copped seventh spot in 49.24. In the 200m, Waithe (21.87) and Mills (22.53) were eighth and 29th, respectively. Waithe (7.08) was 26th overall in the 60m dash.

McNeese State University student Ashlee Smith finished eighth in the women's weight throw with a 16.07m effort.

At the Tyson Invitational, in Arkansas, Kyron Blaise picked up silver in the men's triple jump. The Louisiana State University (LSU) athlete jumped 16.03m.

Kai Selvon earned bronze in the women's 200m. The Auburn University sprinter got to the line in an indoor best 23.52 seconds. Iowa Central Community College student, Reyare Thomas finished 26th in 24.32.

Selvon was sixth in the 60m final in 7.40 seconds. Thomas bowed out in the semi-final round, finishing 13th overall in 7.46.

South Plains College athletes, Sparkle McKnight and Janeil Bellille were ninth and 13th, respectively, in the women's 400m. McKnight clocked 53.78 seconds, while Bellille got home in 54.41.

LSU's Ade Alleyne-Forte clocked 47.56 seconds to finish 15th in the men's 400m. His teammate, Shermund Allsop was 33rd in the 60m dash in 6.97. And in the 200m, Allsop (22.08) and Alleyne-Forte (22.32) were 36th and 48th, respectively.

At the Tiger Paw Invitational, in South Carolina, University of Georgia student Hilenn James seized silver in the women's shot put with a 15.03m throw. Florida International University (FIU) sprinter, T'Keyah Dumoy was 12th overall in the 60m finals in 7.67 seconds. In the preliminary round, she had clocked 7.64.

Carisa Leacock snapped up silver in the Iowa State Classic women's long jump event. The University of Iowa athlete jumped 5.80m. In the triple jump, Leacock (12.11m) was fourth.

At the Texas A&M Invitational, Baylor University quarter-miler Zwede Hewitt claimed bronze in the men's 400m in 47.18 seconds. Texas A&M University freshman, Deon Lendore (47.21) finished fourth.

Baylor's Gavyn Nero returned a time of one minute, 49.74 seconds for sixth spot in the men's 800m.

Texas A&M's Wayne Davis II was 15th in the men's 60m dash in 7.13 seconds. Davis was the fastest qualifier in the 60m hurdles, clocking 8.05 seconds in the preliminary round. However, he opted out of the final.

University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) freshman, Aeisha McDavid was 17th in the women's long jump with a 4.94m leap.

Jarrin Solomon clocked 46.83 seconds to secure fourth spot in the men's 400m, at the Don Kirby Elite meet, in New Mexico. And Texas Tech University student, Dellon Williams produced a 6.96m leap to finish seventh in the men's long jump.
