Walcott sparkles in SpainDonstan Bonn :: Trinidad Express :: 20.07.2012Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott grabbed gold in the javelin event at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain with a huge 78.64 metres effort on his sixth and final throw. Walcott, who was in the silver medal position with a round two throw of 77.03m, surpassed Argentina's Ibero American champion Braian Toledo's leading effort of 77.09m to grab gold. Earlier this month Walcott rewrote the record books when he retained his boy's under-20 javelin title with a monster 82.83m at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Junior Track and Field Championships in El Salvador. That effort was not only a CAC Junior Championship record but also Pan American junior, NACAC (North America, Central America and Caribbean) junior, national junior record and national open benchmarks. It is also the leading throw on the 2012 world junior list. |
