Jeremy Wariner teamed up with fellow Americans Woodrow Randall and Marcus Boyd and Trinidad and Tobago's Zwede Hewitt to secure gold in the men's invitational 4x100 metres event, on day one of the Trinidad and Tobago Relay Carnival, at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, late on Saturday.

Randall ran the leadoff leg for the Green & Gold Elite quartet, handing the baton to Boyd. Wariner, the 2004 Olympic Games men's 400m champion, performed third leg duties, ensuring that anchorman Hewitt had a lead for his home straight run.

The Jamaican anchor closed on Hewitt, but the T&T athlete held off the challenge, handing his team victory in 39.60 seconds. The Jamaicans were second in 39.80, while third spot was copped by Bahamas (40.46).

Green & Gold Elite returned to the track late yesterday, earning silver in the men's invitational 4x400m relay. Hewitt, Quentin Summers, Wariner and Boyd combined for a three minutes, 06.20 seconds clocking. Bahamas emerged victorious in 3:04.53, while third spot went to Canada (3:10.09).

In an exciting boys' high school 4x400m "A" race, Jonathan Farinha anchored Queen's Royal College to victory in 3:14.14.

Asa Guevara, Ayodele Taffe and Jamoul Pierre ran the first three legs for QRC. The Royalians led for much of the race, but when Pierre handed the baton to Farinha, they were second.

Farinha regained the lead for his team. And with 80 metres to go, the 2012 Carifta Games boys' under-17 200m champion glanced over his right shoulder to check on his closest challenger, the Ontario Province of Canada anchorman. Farinha had his measure, the Canadians forced to settle for silver in 3:14.70. St Anthony's College finished a distant third in 3:22.82.

The QRC quartet received their awards from QRC old boy and 1964 Olympic Games men's 400m silver medallist Wendell Mottley.

Mottley and other members of the men's 4x400m relay team that bagged bronze at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics—Edwin Skinner, Kent Bernard and Edwin Roberts—were honoured at the T&T Relay Carnival, yesterday. They received commemorative plaques in recognition of their Olympic podium finish.

Concorde topped the field in yesterday's women's open 4x400m club relay in 3:48.79. Neon Trackers (3:56.02) claimed silver, while bronze went to Petrotrin Palo Seco (4:26.66).

And the men's open 4x400m club relay was won by T&T Defence Force in 3:15.19. University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) Fast Track (3:18.88) and Neon Trackers (3:24.53) captured silver and bronze, respectively.
