Davis opens with crushing victory

Trinidad and Tobago's Wayne Davis II opened his 2013 outdoor campaign with a crushing victory in the men's 110 metres hurdles, at the Baldy Castillo Invitational, in Arizona, USA, yesterday.

The 21-year-old sprint hurdler stopped the clock at 13.54 seconds to finish well ahead of his American Texas A&M University teammate, Kenneth Minkah, the runner-up in 14.13.

Two Saturdays ago, in Arkansas, Davis captured 60m hurdles silver at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division 1 Indoor Track and Field Championships. He got to the line in a national record time of 7.59 seconds.

At the Texas Christian University (TCU) Invitational, on Friday, Gavyn Nero earned gold in the men's 800m and silver in the 1500m. The Baylor University senior returned a time of one minute, 55.20 seconds in the 800, and in the longer race he clocked 4:00.35.

Abilene Christian University sophomore Osei Alleyne-Forte was 20th overall in the men's 200m in a wind-assisted 22.18 seconds.

On Thursday, at the Felsberg Invitational in Florida, T'Keyah Dumoy topped the women's 200m field in 24.31 seconds. The Florida International University (FIU) student also competed in the 400m event, finishing third in 58.37.

And on Friday, in California, Deborah John bagged bronze in the Aztec Invitational women's 100m hurdles. The North Dakota State University junior got home in 14.08 seconds.
