McKnight sparkles at Texas Elite meet

Trinidad and Tobago's Sparkle McKnight grabbed gold in the women's 400 metres hurdles, at the Texas State Elite meet, in the United States, on Saturday.

The University of Arkansas student clocked a personal best 56.62 seconds to move into second spot on the 2013 world performance list.

At the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Springtime meet, Western Texas College athlete Kernesha Spann returned a time of one minute, 00.65 seconds to emerge victorious in the women's 400m hurdles.

South Plains College student Elton Walcott jumped a wind-assisted 15.76 metres to earn gold in the men's triple jump. And UTEP's Aeisha McDavid clocked a windy 14.13 seconds for fourth spot overall in the women's 100m hurdles.

At the Baylor Quad Invitational, in Texas, Baylor University's Gavyn Nero won the men's 800m in 1:52.68.

Zwede Hewitt was fifth overall in the men's 100m in 10.59 seconds, and was also fifth in the 200m in 21.43.

In South Carolina, Deandra Daniel cleared the bar at 1.70 metres for top spot in the Weems Baskin Invitational women's high jump. Another T&T athlete, Morgan State University's Jeanelle Ovid (1.65m) finished fifth.

Coppin State's Kareem Crawford finished sixth overall in the men's 400m hurdles in 55.11 seconds. And Temple University student, Kiersten LaRoche clocked 1:00.77 for ninth spot in the women's 400m.

At the Billiken Kickoff, in Missouri, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee athlete, Durell Busby captured the men's 110m hurdles title in 14.43 seconds.

At the University of the West Indies (UWI) Invitational, in Jamaica, Darlene Lewis struck gold for UWI St Augustine, winning the women's javelin with a 38.84m throw. Lewis threw 10.77m for seventh spot in the women's shot put.

In the men's shot put, Kesean Phillips (15.07m) and Keon Francis (12.66m) finished third and eighth, respectively. In the discus, Phillips (44.87m) was seventh, and Francis (40.09m), 11th. And in the javelin, Phillips threw 47.72m to secure eighth spot.

Shirvan Baboolal finished third in the men's 1,500m in 4:11.05, and fourth in the 5,000m in 16:21.20.

And Sherwin Jackson clocked 1:01.37 for 13th spot overall in the men's 400m hurdles.

Reyare Thomas seized silver in the women's 200m, at the Bobby Lane Invitational, in Texas, USA. The Abilene Christian University (ACU) sprinter got to the line in 24.02 seconds. Another T&T/ACU athlete, Osei Alleyne-Forte got home in a wind-aided 22.83 to claim 21st spot overall in the men's 200m.

At the Louisiana State University (LSU) Tiger Relays, Ade Alleyne-Forte finished second in the men's 400m in 47.05 seconds.

There was silver too for Kashef Daniel, the Arkansas State University athlete finishing second in the men's high jump with a 2.08m clearance. Daniel also competed in the long jump, finishing eighth with a 6.74m leap.

LSU sprinter Shermund Allsop clocked 10.55 seconds for fifth spot in the men's 100m dash. Kyron Blaise was 18th overall in a windy 10.99.

At the University of Central Florida (UCF) Invitational, University of Florida senior Jovon Toppin secured men's 400m silver in 47.98 seconds. University of Maryland senior Shawn David was tenth in 49.26.

Chelsi Campbell picked up women's 400m silver at the Golden Rams Invitational, in Pennsylvania. The University of Delaware student got home in 57.66 seconds. Shippensburg University athlete Steve Waithe jumped 6.03m for 12th spot in the men's long jump.

At the Trojan Invitational, in California, Washington State University's Shawna Fermin finished seventh overall in the women's 200m in 24.28 seconds.

And in Tennessee, Middle Tennessee State University's Kendall Bacchus was eighth overall in the Vanderbilt Black and Gold Invite men's 100m event in 10.98 seconds.
