Cedenio takes President Classic 400m

Recently crowned Carifta boys Under-20 400m champion sped to victory in the men's one lap event at the second annual President Classic which took place at the Hasley Crawford Stadium, Port of Spain yesterday.

Cedenio took the top spot in 46.99 seconds, 1.06 slower than his 45.93 time in his gold medal run in the Bahamas, a week ago.

The Simplex runner made his move at the 150m mark and pulled away down the homestretch to cross the line ahead of hurdler Kern Alexis (Neon Trackers) 47.74 and Carifta fifth place finisher Asa Guevara (48.01).

Cougars Athletic club led the way with impressive wins in the opening relay events. The green and black clad runners captured the girls U-13 4x100 relay (53.68), girls U-13 4x100 (52.05), boys U-15 4x100 (48.14) and the girls U-17 Sprint Medley (1:48.65).

Cougars continued their success in the mixed U-9 4x100 (1:02.75) and mixed U-11 4x100m (57.32) ahead of Cougars B (59.78).

Kendis Bullard (Petrotrin Palo Seco) took the men's 800m in an impressive time of 1:52.76 ahead of Clifton Sylvester (TTDF) 1:54.11 and teenager Ashton Gills (Cougars) 1:55.87. Sylvester took the early lead before Bullard went ahead on the back straight and pulled away.

In the field events, Akeem Stewart (Tobago Falcons) was an emphatic winner of the men's shot put tossing the iron ball to 17.77m to smash his personal best and get over the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Senior Championships qualifying mark of 17.00.

Stewart finished ahead of Kesean Phillips (UWI) 15.66) and another Tobago Falcons throw Kenejah Williams (14.17). The CAC champions are carded for Mexico City, Mexico from July 12-14.

Portious Warren (Toco TAFAC) took the women's shot put (12.86) while masters Geraldine George (Petrotrin Palo Seco) captured the women's Javelin (39.36).

Other winners were: Thyla-Marie Scott (Cougars) in the girls U-17 400m in 57.40, Aaron Sylvester (Concorde) boys U-17 400m in the 51.27, Hakim Smith (Toco TAFAC) men’s javelin in 56.40, Dawnell Collymore (Memphis Pioneers) in the women’s 800m in 2:18.79, Chivonne Aigle (Striders) 2:40.37), Ayodelle Taffe of Abilene Wildcats (20.77) in the boys U-20 200m and Jonathan Farinha (Abilene Wildcats) in 20.92.

The 1,500m, 100m and 4x400 events were contested late yesterday.
