McKnight, Busby, Daniel strike gold

Sparkle McKnight, Durell Busby and Deandra Daniel were all triumphant at meets in the United States, last week.

On Saturday, McKnight clocked a personal best 52.17 seconds to capture the Sun Angel Classic women's 400 metres title. With that clocking, the University of Arkansas student moved into 11th spot on the 2013 world outdoor performance list.

McKnight also competed in the 200m event, finishing fifth in 23.91. Another T&T athlete, North Dakota State University's Deborah John clocked 13.95 seconds for 10th spot overall in the women's 100m hurdles.

On Friday, at the Marquette-Milwaukee Dual Meet in Wisconsin, Busby, a student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, produced a 51.84 metres throw to strike gold in the men's javelin.

And on Wednesday, in Georgia, Daniel cleared the bar at 1.67m to win the Tiger Twilight Meet women's high jump event. The Coppin State University student was fifth in the long jump with a 5.11m leap. At the Tiger Track Classic in Alabama, on the weekend, Kai Selvon seized silver in the women's 200m in 23.37 seconds. Her Auburn University teammate, Gabriela Cumberbatch was 33rd in 25.23.

Middle Tennessee State University's Kendall Bacchus finished 17th in the men's 100m in 10.88 seconds and 33rd in the 200m in 22.29.

Also in Alabama, University of Minnesota athlete, Alena Brooks returned a time of two minutes, 05.82 seconds to earn silver in the Crimson Tide Invitational women's 800m.

At the Duke Invitational, in North Carolina, Morgan State University's Jeanelle Ovid finished second in the women's high jump with a 1.68m clearance. University of Maryland student, Shawn David was ninth in the men's 400m in 49.02 seconds and 28th in the 200m in 22.68.

In Oregon, Washington State University's Shawna Fermin bagged bronze in the Pepsi Team Invitational women's 400m in 53.66 seconds.

At the Mesa Classic, in Arizona, John clocked 14.17 seconds for third spot in the women's 100m hurdles. She was sixth in the 100m dash in 12.34.

At the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational, in California, Louisiana State University (LSU) sprinter Shermund Allsop was fourth in the men's 200m in 21.29 seconds and fifth in the 100m in 10.62.

University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) student, Aeisha McDavid produced an 11.51m effort to finish seventh in the Texas Tech Open women's triple jump.

At the SFA Alumni Invitational, in Texas, Wichita State University's Samantha Shukla clocked 4:44.56 for eighth spot in the women's 1500m. Her Wichita State teammate, Aaron Leung Woo-Gabriel was 15th in the men's 200m in 22.42 seconds and 20th in the 100m in a wind-assisted 11.11.

In Virginia, Chelsi Campbell was 15th fastest in the Colonial Relays women's 200m event in 25.40 seconds.

At the Emporia State Relays, in Kansas, Butler Community College freshman Abiane Collymore finished 15th in the women's 1500m in 5:05.88. Butler sprinter Richard Marcano was 22nd overall in the men's 100m dash in 11.03 seconds and 40th in the 200m in 23.09.
